James Holland is an award-winning historian, renowned writer and instantly recognisable broadcaster, widely respected for his authority on the Second World War. The author of bestselling history books including Battle of Britain, Dam Busters and The War in the West, Holland is known for making military history vivid, accessible and gripping without losing its complexity.

He has written and presented a large number of television programmes, including Channel 4’s primetime Battle of Britain: Model Squadron and the BBC’s Battle of Britain: The Real Story, combining archival rigour with strong narrative storytelling. He is also the Chair and co-founder of the Chalke Valley History Festival, the UK’s largest festival dedicated solely to history, and a graduate of Durham University with a degree in history.

A member of the British Commission for Military History and the Guild of Battlefield Guides, Holland regularly contributes to national newspapers and magazines and appears on national radio. As co-host of We Have Ways of Making You Talk, he pairs deep research with sharp storytelling - taking listeners as close as possible to the lived reality of the war and the decisions that shaped the modern world.
